Fane Skarrick was born in the Inland Plains region of Shalomar. His father owned a successful farm many miles north of the city of Dufur along the Sunflower river. Fane, along with his two older brothers, grew up working on their father’s farm. Fane was never as capable as his brothers when it came to farm work. He had a much slighter build and often fell behind during the harvest. What Fane lacked in physical strength, he made up for in his ability to always find the most effective way to accomplish the work that needed to be done. His brothers were receptive as they could be to directions from their younger brother.

Near the end of one harvest season, Fane was working in to the night to catch up with his brothers. Two bandits from the Salted Wastes made their way on to the farm stumbling upon Fane. Hoping to make short work of him, the bandits were surprised by his tenacity. Fane quickly sized up his opponents Using his work scythe and his wits, Fane was able to use their reckless behavior against them and fend them off until his brothers arrived. Fane felt exhilarated by the quickness of his mind and action. He began to hone his strength and skill to be better prepared the next time.

He had many opportunities as the frequency of the bandit attacks increased. His father and brothers also came to trust his leadership abilities. It was also around this time that the Carlsberg House began tightening its stranglehold on the sale of the crops produced in the region. They were unable to sell their crops for a reasonable price, and Fane’s father became disheartened and weary. His brothers eventually took over the day to day operations of the farm. Things only became worse after the election scandal of 3552. The embarrassed Carlsberg House clung even tighter to their power in the region. Fane left his brothers and father to manage what was left of their farm and went out into the world to find another way to help.
