The Dwarves of Glum have exhausted their ancestral mines, and their efforts to develop new mines in nearby regions have been frustrated by an encroaching hostile giant community. Consequently, throughout Shalomar all metal products are in short supply and very expensive. Glum itself is a complete war zone. There is no new iron ore coming out of the mines, and most dwarves that remain are entrenched in a guerilla war with the giants. Meanwhile, dwarven refugees are streaming to the surrounding regions, especially Sheene. The slums of Sheene, now referred to as “Little Glum,” have been overrun by dwarven immigrants. A dwarven tent city surrounds Sheene’s city walls. Anti-dwarf sentiment is rampant in Sheene and a new nationalist movement has arisen, which threatens to polarize the coming Election.
The iron ore recently flowing from the Glitter Cliffs has helped ease the effects of the shortage somewhat, but the most recent shipment of iron ore has gone missing…
Representatives of the Dalelands claim to have discovered veins of iron ore in their region, and have requested the assistance of mining experts in developing those assets. Thus far, the rest of Shalomar has been slow to respond.
